Odeon

It all begins with an idea.

Motion graphics

For Odeon Cinema Group’s rebrand, I was tasked with creating some magical pre-show advertisements to get people in the mood for a night at the movies. Through my role as Motion Designer, I delivered two sequences that made part of the pre-show: the announcement for the branded ads, and the final audience announcement before the movie commences. In addition I assisted in animating the kinetic typography for the 30 second master. To bring my sequences to life I created portal transitions and particle simulations that capitalised on the creative of Odeon being a portal into a world of super-powered characters (represented by Odeon Cinema staff).

Additionally I was in charge of resizing the master for all social formats and delivering regional versions across European branches. As a movie lover and self-confessed cinephile, I was overjoyed to work on this project and contribute to work that celebrates the magic of cinema.

Now

It all begins with an idea.

VIdeo editor & Motion GRAPHics

Before their rebrand, I was briefed to create TVCs that highlighted key films and TV shows Now had to offer its customer base. Two of these edits contained numerous titles spanning varied genres; challenging me to bring multiple stories together into unified ads to celebrate Now’s ultimate range of content.

One of the edits was specifically focussed on the show Your Honor, starring Bryan Cranston. A highlight of working on this particular brief was the delicate balance of bringing the show’s thriller motifs front and centre to both pre and post-watershed ads.

Intel

It all begins with an idea.

video editor

To coincide with the release of Intel’s 10th generation i7 processors, I was tasked with editing a story of a digital artist traversing London to find inspiration for her latest piece.

Having a story to craft in my work is always extremely rewarding, but a unique challenge of this project was co-ordinating with a team of motion designers all working on various elements of the edit. Ensuring their renders slotted into the edit perfectly and without issue meant my timeline needed to be watertight and my communication frame accurate. As a means of growing my ability to oversee a project’s workflow from numerous angles (not just my own) it was an invaluable experience.

Pokerstars

It all begins with an idea.

video editor & motion graphics

Pokerstars wanted to tell 6 stories of sports fans placing bets that would make them either a legend or a cautionary tale, all narrated by football pundit David Ginola. I was given three of these stories to bring to life.

This brief was all about one thing - collaboration. Being able to discuss with the director and co-editor (who was overseeing the other 3 films) how to really dial in the tone of each edit was a uniquely rewarding experience. I also had to be in constant communication with the lead animator for the animated segments in order to give them real-time information on how the edit is progressing, as the two were very much flowing in parallel. Oh, and did I mention the edits were all in French? Sadly not a language I speak, so editing with transcripts and translations also added a fun spin to the work pipeline.

The collaborative nature of this project was not only essential, but also allowed me to grow as a creative who could lead and instruct where necessary to keep a project on track.

Lionsgate

It all begins with an idea.

video editor & motion graphics

To build up to the release of Lionsgate’s Die In A Gunfight (directed by Colin Schiffli), I was asked to create a number of short social posts advertising the film.

With limited resources I collaborated with the creative team to make edits that leaned into the pulpy, neon soaked and tongue-in-cheek nature of the narrative. Keeping them short, punchy and attention grabbing gave me the flexibility to create numerous deliverables that explored different elements of the film; such as its animated chapters, and combination of genres (action, comedy and romance).

These social edits were then posted on the official Instagram pages for Lionsgate, Colin Schiffli and Diego Boneta (who starred in the film).

Tommy Hilfiger

It all begins with an idea.

motion graphics

Tommy Hilfiger’s flagship store on Regent Street wanted to create an experience where anyone could step into the world of Tommy Hilfiger, make it their own, and take it home with them. This resulted in a photo booth that could place a combination of different filters over a recorded image of the user, and give them a printed “snapshot” of their recording. I was asked to create the motion design demonstrating the experience for the user before they began.

The highly stylised aesthetic of the filters was an interesting challenge I had not attempted before in such detail, with each one containing a lot of elements that needed to stick as closely to the experience as possible. Approaching a style like this was satisfying to see come together, which is best shown in the hold screen video (last in the carousel) where all the filters combine in different ways on top of one another.

YouTube

It all begins with an idea.

video editor & motion graphics

To cap off 2022, YouTube wanted to celebrate the trends and content creators that went viral on YouTube Shorts throughout the year.

My main objective was to create a fun, humorous edit that never lost focus of the content - showing off the silliest and best of meme culture. I needed to ensure my project was built to accommodate numerous runtimes and aspect ratios, as well as maintaining a keen attention to detail for delivery specifications that included VoD and DOOH.

Capital

It all begins with an idea.

video editor

In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, live music performances completely shut down. To celebrate their return, Capital wanted to create videos that showcased the feeling of once again being able to see great music in person.

The video I was asked to make was centred around the music festival experience, featuring comedian Munya Chawawa. As the structure of the edit was built off of Munya and Jimmy exploring the festival, I was delighted to have “scenes” with dialogue to cut and be guided by the banter-filled performance of the presenters. It was also great to be able to take an edit throughout the full post-production pipeline, from rough cut all the way through to final delivery.

Dobbies

It all begins with an idea.

motion graphics

Dobbies wanted to get people excited for Spring and unlock the potential of their gardens. How do you get people excited about gardening? By making a tongue-in-cheek video about the many “types” of gardener there are.

My job was simple - add the titles. With such a dynamic edit to work with, my suggestion was to integrate the titles directly into each scene to make it feel cohesive and not distract from the camera moves or characters on display. This paid off, and definitely pushed my skills in both camera tracking and rotoscoping.

Guinness

It all begins with an idea.

video editor

For their South Korean market, I was asked to edit a TVC that had an interesting visual spin on Guinness interacting with and mirroring every day life.

Combining the footage panels to make a singular image was a fun creative puzzle, and sitting in with the director to go over the best approach to each vignette added an always welcome element of collaboration to the process.

Google

It all begins with an idea.

video editor

For Google’s summit on misinformation, I was asked to contribute to a set of videos that focussed on companies directly combatting the spread of misinformation online. My particular edit was for the Faktencheck21 project based in Germany.

Similar to Pokerstars the video was in a language I personally don’t speak (in this case German), so I was in regular communication with a translator and the director to confirm my edit was 100% accurate in its narrative. An additional problem to solve on this project was sourcing and adding stock footage to the edit that would work seamlessly with the captured footage I was provided.

BAFTA

It all begins with an idea.

video editor

Take a two hour awards ceremony (in person for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic) full of the top talent of British television, and distill it into a three and a half minute highlights video all on the same night - that was my brief for the 2022 Virgin BAFTA Television Awards.

It was a privilege to be invited to the Royal Festival Hall and be amongst the buzz of the night, certainly after a long stint of remote working due to the ongoing pandemic. Taking on this task meant I not only had to really optimise my time management, but also keep a level head with what was a very high pressure situation. It was a good exercise in efficiency when working to perhaps the tightest deadline of my career (and I wouldn’t recommend editing in a suit either!).
